Polycarbonate (Lexan®) is a transparent thermoplastic material used where impact resistance, good dielectric properties and optical clarity are priorities. This versatile thermoplastic absorbs very little moisture and maintains its properties over a wide range of temperatures, from -40"F to 220"F. These properties, plus good low frequency and high voltage insulating characteristics, make Polycarbonate a prime material for electrical and electronic components. Polycarbonate thermoforms well, is easy to paint and bonds well using solvents and adhesives. Many grades of polycarbonate are available, with each providing specific properties for a variety of applications. It can even be FDA approved for food-contact and medical applications.
